ABOUT DocA

DocA is a unique Pan-African initiative that aims to cultivate and nourish a self-sustaining documentary film ecosystem in Africa.

We aim at supporting the African documentary film industry through interconnected initiatives in storytelling development and content creation, knowledge-building and sharing, distribution, and audience building.

Our focus is to enable African documentary film makers tell African narratives through the African lens, so that we can consolidate diverse African perspectives that can confront dominant and inaccurate narratives about the African continent.

MISSION

We exist to support the wide circulation of African perspectives and voices through documentary filmmaking.

VISION

To complement, cultivate and nourish a self-sustaining documentary film ecosystem in Africa.

OUR PROGRAMS

DocA is committed to supporting the development of Africa documentaries through the following avenues: -

TRAINING & FELLOWSHIPS

We partner with recognized institutions of training both on the continent and further afield.We partner with numerous recognized institutions.

GRANTS

We offer several types of films grants. They are, Development grants, production grants, post-production grants and emergency funds.

MASTERCLASSES

Masterclasses by DocA mentors and Internationally recognized documentary filmmakers. Fellowship through e-trainings. Online library of resources. Screenings. Regular live session to help the grantees and applicants meet the DocA requirements.

WORKSHOPS

Our workshops are intense programs that combine in-class instruction and hands-on production workshops where participants put into practice what they learn in skill areas that include story-telling, pitching, producing, directing, camera work, lighting, sound recording, editing, and creative marketing for distribution.

Wholly dedicated to cinema from Africa and Middle-East, the workshops are a creative and professional platform to support filmmakers as well as a place for exchange between international professionals and regional talents.
